The easy access from the N340 and the “pay and play” strategy means the golf course is becoming more and more popular visiting golfers, it is advisable to pre-book your golf.

La Duquesa Golf on the Costa Del Sol Golf, Spain

La Duquesa Golf on the Costa Del Sol Golf, Spain

La Duquesa Golf on the Costa del Sol Golf, Spain is situated close to the port of Duqesa on the Costa del Sol, this area is becoming more popular with golfing holidaymakers particularly as the new motorway makes it more accessible.

The golf course itself is renowned for its spectacular landscape with views of the mountains and Mediterranean sea.

La Duquesa Golf is one of the Costa del Sol Golf’s most varied courses and regular improvements have been made over the years to the  golf course itself and the greens.

Many holes require strict concentration and straight driving and it is a challenging course for golfers of all standards offering a good mixture of distances, hazards and strategically placed bunkers.

Some fairways can be a little tight and a long iron is perhaps of more use than a driver on several holes. You certainly have to think your way round and carefully line up those putts on greens which are not as easy as they seem. The par 3’s are a feature particularly the eighth where there is a vertical drop of some 10 metres to a green that is only 108 metres away. Another factor is the breeze that can make playing that little bit more difficult although it can be very refreshing in the warmer months!

On arrival you will find ample parking, a very good clubhouse with bar and restaurant facilities and a large terraced area where you can watch the golfers return. There are changing facilities, a good pro shop, putting green as well as a large practice area. There are ample buggies available and due to the nature of the course it is advisable to take advantage of them. La Duquesa Golf is a very relaxing course to play and should be part of your itinerary when you visit this part of the Costa del Sol Golf.

El Paraiso Golf on the Costa Del Sol Golf, Spain

El Paraiso Golf on the Costa Del Sol Golf, Spain

El Paraiso Golf on the Costa del Sol Golf, Spain is an attractive golf course which is being constantly improved.

Situated approx. halfway between Estepona and Marbella just off the N-340 Costa del Sol’s coast road which affords the golf course good access.

Designed by Gary Player in 1974 it was originally owned by Wimpey Homes and purchased by the members in 1996 and they continue to refine the layout and presentation.

The El Paraiso Golf clubhouse has a rustic Andalucian feel and a great atmosphere is situated right in the middle of the golf course between what used to be the green of the par four 3rd and the tee of the par three 17th hole, and affords a pretty view of the whole course.

In general, one could say that the El Paraiso Golf course is, in some ways, misleading, because the generosity of its fairways makes it seem easy, but the fact remains that, on either side, difficult obstacles constantly appear, with roughs that in many cases conceal lakes and streams that, while enhancing the natural beauty of the course, constitute a real hazard.

The beauty of the El Paraiso’s environment stands out on its own on a spot that holds par four 13th and par three 14th holes, with a lake bang in the middle, and thick groves around it.

El Paraiso Golf is one of the most picturesque golf course’s on the Costa del Sol  Golf with it’s meandering streams running into lakes and large palms, all set against the beautiful mountain back drop.

If you playing golf on the Costa del Sol this course is a must play golf course.

The Golf course itself was opened in 1925 by the Spanish Royal Family and is the Costa del Sol Golf’s oldest golf course and consequently steeped in history, it is here that the pioneers of the sport in the province took their first shots on its fairways.

With a history reaching back sixty years, the facilities of the club are in perfect condition thanks to years of careful maintenance.

The par 72 course is fairly long with long par three’s and four’s and reasonable par five’s.

Parador Golf is an easy walk, being rather flat, and has wide fairways lined with mature pines, olive trees and palm trees.

The golf course has a mature feel and the par 72, 6024 meters course shows it was built in an era when land was more readily available than today.

Designed by Scottish golf course architect Tom Simpson, who was better known for his golfing layouts at Turnberry and Muirfield.

Parador Golf is part links with seawater lagoons that change with the natural tide, and part parkland with the fairways forming avenues between the trees which are home to flocks of colourful parakeets.

Parador Golf presents a challenge for amateurs of all levels though some holes do present a challenge particularly the 12th, a perfect drive is required in order to reach the green in two and avoid the eucalyptus grove on the right.

Parador Golf is a true championship golf course, having hosted the Turespaña Masters Open de España in 1992 and 1999.

On arrival there is ample parking and good clubhouse facilities including changing facilities and bar and restaurant. There is a driving range and putting area as well as lessons on a group or individual basis if required.

Information About Mijas Golf on the Costa Del Sol Golf

Information About Mijas Golf on the Costa Del Sol Golf

Mijas Los Lagos Golf on the Costa del Sol Golf is being constantly upgraded and refurbished to match modern day standards and is a very good mixture of holes to be enjoyed by all golfers whatever their handicap.

It is one of the longest (6404 mts in length) and flattest golf courses on the Costa del Sol as well as being spacious with few obstructions and practically no rough.

Exotic Araucalia Pines and perfumed Jacaranda line the fairways at Los Lagos all of which add to the charm of the course and make it a “must play” course for thousand’s of returning golfers.

With two of the busiest and most popular golf courses on the Costa del Sol Golf, Mijas Golf Club is definitely doing something right.

Both 18 hole Mijas courses were designed by Robert Trent Jones in the mid 70s. and golfers will enjoy Trent Jones’s creation with its gentle, undulating fairways and the general impression of wide open space.

It appears that the legendary designer wanted to create a course that was suitable for amateurs but, at the same time, he has also managed to present them with a challenge.

Mijas Los Lagos Golf is an ideal golf course for big hitters, but it also demands great concentration on the part of the player as well as short shots.

Mijas Los Olivos Golf has many distinguishing features that set it apart from Mijas Los Largos Golf, mainly it’s abundance of trees hence the name, and its smaller size as well as fewer water hazards.

The greens are smaller, undulating and well defended. Although both are the work of the same designer, “Trent Jones” there is no doubt there are interesting contrasts between the two courses.

If Mijas Los Lagos Golf is based on water hazards and sand, then Mijas Los Olivos Golf is strategic, the fairways are narrow and tree lined and greens are elevated.

Both course’s provide unique challenges and are ideal holiday golf courses.

Mijas Los Olivos Golf course was constructed originally between 1983-1984, although it has recently been totally refurbished (2000-2001) and is a completely different course to its watery counterpart.

The refurbishing program has made the course so much more picturesque, particularly around the lake areas and is characterised by the undulating fairways, twisted bunkers, small greens and trees that are at the least obstructive.

Mijas los Olivos Golf is considered to be the most challenging of the two course’s and is a very good test of golf for all handicaps. Again, there is an excellent mixture of holes to be enjoyed, some of which have been altered or rebuilt with new tees and bunkers.

A well stocked golf shop is on site offering all types of equipment and accessories and is situated in the main building next to the Golf Reception

El chaparral Golf Course Costa del Sol

El chaparral Golf Course Costa del Sol

El Chaparral Golf is becoming one of the most popular courses on the Costa del Sol. After being closed for a number of years due to a dispute between the original owners it has been brought back to life by the new owners.

El Chaparral enjoys a fantastic position, past Fuengirola and just before La Cala on the coastal road towards Marbella. The turning onto the slip road is just after the El Faro turning and then through the Chaparral arches.

The course with its six par 3’s six par 4’s and six par 5’s has some beautiful views of the sea and the Mijas Mountains inland as well as the many trees that line most holes. The course has the usual bunkers protecting the greens and a few brooks and streams to negotiate from tee to green.

Most of the holes do not allow for a wayward shot onto another holes fairway as they are set out on their own. This gives many of the holes a lot of character and making tee shots in particular very important if you want to score well. With the layout of some of the holes, especially the par 5’s, offering a risk reward situation for where you position your shots this El Chaparral is a course which makes you think.

It is always advisable to purchase the course guide for the best positions and distances to greens and obstacles but here are thoughts on four holes.

The third hole is a par 5 but with a drive over 200 meters the mound on the right can be cleared giving an opportunity to go for the green. If your drive is to the middle or right of the fairway which is usual as it slopes this way there is a stream to cross about 100 to 150 meters away before taking the approach shot to a narrow green. The tight fairway before the green slopes to the left where there is a ditch and a bunker to trap any short balls.

The eighth hole is a beautiful hole especially from the back, back tees where you drive out from the trees way down onto a fairway that is tight and doglegs to the right. From the normal yellow tees you must decide on how much of the corner to cut or take less of a club because anything hit too straight or far will be in the rough or tees on the far side of the fairway. Again the green is narrow and has a high bank to the left and a drop to the right.

The eleventh hole is a rolling tunnel that generally if you hit any shot slightly to the left or the right it will roll back onto the fairway. There are occasions they do not cut the rough but the banks slopes still generally let the ball roll back down. This hole is a par 5 that twists a lot and is uphill. It is hard to reach in two shots but played easily this hole is not as tough as it first looks.

The par 5 seventeenth offers many choices of how to play it best. For the long drivers it is possible to clear the right hand large gully to position yourself for a shot at the green. It is a small landing area for the tee shot and the approach shot is over a corner of the practice area, a gully, some trees and the a bunker. The green is narrow and there is a rock wall behind, it’s a difficult shot! For a normal drive play shorter and left of the gully and then hit the next shot to the right of the green as far as possible to give a straighter and easier approach to the green. It’s a great hole but far from easy.

The course is well managed and employs staffs who are friendly, know and enjoy their work. The course is always well manicured and they are particularly proud of the fast greens which are among the best on the Costa del Sol.

There are houses, villas and some apartments to be seen from the course but they aren’t lining the fairways and restricting your golf in any way. The clubhouse is the largest of these buildings which is one of the best clubhouses on the coast. From its very large veranda you can see the first fairway, over the trees to the sea and the whole of the par 3 eighteenth. The clubhouse is a great way to enjoy an after round drink and meal with the restaurant offering some beautiful lunches, dinners and private evening meals for the various parties that use the facilities.
