If competition motivates you, then golf could be just for you. The competitive spirit will always motivate someone to drive further, or improve their ball striking, or, perhaps putt better. There are many people who enjoy golf, and also many benefits to the sport.

Exercise is one of the greatest benefits from playing golf and a key factor to play for certain people. If one was to walk an entire golf course, they would be covering a great distance, thus providing themselves with a healthy exercise. This activity does not only require walking, it also adds more exercise by swinging the golf club, and by carrying a golf bag.

One single person can lose a superb amount of 370 calories for every one hour spent playing golf.

Many people also find friends and are able to interact with others while playing golf. For the most part, golf is played in pairs or groups, thus creating valuable time to interact and compete with your friends.

Cycling also is a beneficial activity to participate in. In most places, you are able to cycle year-round, by using your bicycle as a means for transportation. Cycling long-term provides a more healthy lifestyle. Sunlight is also quite beneficial and available outdoors, which produces vitamin D and can help prevent many serious risks.

Cycling is also very good for the heart, it strengthens your heart regularly, and can positively effect blood circulation. Cycling greatly diminishes the risk of arthritis, by keeping your muscles and cartilage healthy and strong. Cycling and moderate exercise has proven to be effective in reducing stress. Cycling can also lead to considerable weight loss, and it greatly increases a person’s metabolism.

Three Steps for a Productive Golf Lesson

Three Steps for a Productive Golf Lesson

It’s been many months now of weekly practice our there on the golf course taking shot after shot. Unfortunately you still haven’t improved your handicap. Your short game is hopeless, driving inaccurate and you just can’t sink a putt to save your life. What do you do? You decide to take a golf lesson or two.

There are three main points that you need to take into consideration when it comes to choosing and getting the most out of your golf lessons. One, the choice of instructor, two coming prepared to the lesson and three, the expectations you must have of yourself after each lesson is finished.

Instructor

Your golf lesson is a valuable investment of your time, energy and hard earned money. Therefore, the first step towards getting the most out of your golf lesson is locating and working with the right instructor. The pro at the golf shop may not necessarily be the right coach for you. Ask your fellow golfers for recommendations on who they may have heard is a good instructor or who they have personally used for a golf lesson.

The next step is to find an instructor whose qualifications match your current level of play. In other words, you don’t need a highly qualified instructor to teach you the basics of golfing.

In addition, to gain the optimum benefits of your golf lesson, it is important that you are comfortable with your instructor’s personality and style of teaching. A good personality and teaching style should consist of encouragement, patience and the challenging of the student in a positive manner.

Finally, on choosing your instructor, make sure that the length of their availability matches the number of lessons you wish to take. There is nothing worse than going through this process, being comfortable with the instructor and then finding out that they are not available after the second or third lesson.

Preparation

It is highly important that you come to each one of your lessons with a series of questions prepared. Take note after each round of the things you need the most help with. Take a scrapbook and jot down after every misplaced shot what exactly you did with your swing and how you felt when you played the stroke.

It is extremely important that you practice everything you have been taught in between golf lesson sessions. This means that every time you go to a range or play out on a course you are constantly applying what you have been taught for every shot you make. Don’t just think that by going to a few lessons, you will automatically start to play better.

Finally, make sure that you are mentally prepared for the lesson to be given. Have all of your needed tools and equipment with you and remember that what we generally get out of something is in proportion to what we give.

Your Own Expectations

At the conclusion of each lesson you should have reached some sort of goal or expectation that you had of yourself. Whether this means you found the answers to every one of the questions you had for your instructor or maybe you hit further than you’ve ever hit before. Whatever it is, just make sure you know beforehand so you have something to strive for.

Constantly ask you instructor for feedback and make sure you tell him/her to be blunt with you right from the very beginning. Constructive criticism is very important if you want to see vast improvements in your game.

Also, expect assignments and practice techniques that can be implemented to correct certain aspects of your golf game. Follow through on these assignments and practice these techniques as often as possible knowing that it is in practice we improve the skill level.

Tips On Buying Your First Set Of Golf Clubs

Tips On Buying Your First Set Of Golf Clubs

Before buying your very first set of golf clubs, keep these important ideas and tips in mind.

First, try to understand how often you will be playing the game. If your only intention is to play a couple of times a year in the company scramble or better ball, then it is probably best to stick with a cheaper set of golf clubs, rather than spending a ton of cash on a brand new set of clubs. But if you’ve tried the game and enjoy it and feel that you want to take it up more often you should do a little research and determine which golf clubs are best for you.

Your level of interest, dedication, time and of course cash flow are important factors in how many times you’ll be getting out on the golf course. If you’re not sure what these levels are, then you should probably look for a cheaper set of clubs or even some second-hand clubs. They will work out the best for a new player who is testing out their enjoyment in the world of golf. If your interest continues to grow, you can always buy a new set of clubs down the road and by then you would probably have a better understanding of your game and commitment.

If at first you are not sure what type of clubs you should buy, then you can ask and see what other people or friends who have some understanding of the game think will suit you best. Try asking the friends who like to play golf and who have probably been with you on your first or second outing. They would be able to point you in the right direction, especially if they’ve seen you play. Or ask at your local pro shop and see what they would recommend for you. Asking people who play the game is the best way to get ideas for which set of golf clubs could be the best fit for you.

Once you narrow down the search you can always test drive the golf clubs at your local dealer to get a feel for what you’re buying and to see if they are the best possible clubs for your swing and the level of player you are. Two tips I feel are important for anyone looking to buy a beginner set of golf clubs is; look for perimeter weighted golf clubs instead of forged blades this will help with forgiveness on off center shots and help you enjoy the game. Also try and pick up graphite shafts instead of steel shafts, this will limit the amount of feedback or vibrations on shots you miss hit and also help you enjoy the game more. Once you have your swing and are comfortable enough to know what you want and see an improvement in your game, then see about some higher end clubs.

After you make your decision, check out a few discount dealers, pro shops or even some local garage sales. You can get a decent set of new starter golf clubs for 0 or 0 from a discount golf shop or maybe a better set of clubs for a lot less from someone’s garage. Heck they might even throw in a golf bag and some golfing accessories you’ll probably need.

Finally and most importantly, enjoy the game and the score will come!

Golf is a Healthy Activity for the Whole Family

Golf is a Healthy Activity for the Whole Family

Everyone knows that exercise is an important component of a plan for overall health. Usually, the more exercise you can fit into your day, the greater chance you will have to keep your weight at a healthy level and the more likely will you be to strengthen and train your heart and lungs to improve their function. Golf is a great sport that can be played over one’s entire lifespan, from child to adult, and it can be used, along with a proper diet and regular doctor visits, as a part of a healthy and active lifestyle.

As any athlete can tell you, if you go out and play a hard game of anything without proper training beforehand, you are much more likely to get hurt. Smart golfers often start training before their golf season begins. They use a series of golf conditioning exercises that focuses on strengthening the muscles used in the pursuit of playing golf: the center or core of the body, arms, shoulders and legs. They also perform exercises that are used to improve the player’s coordination, balance and flexibility, all of which are crucial components for any golf player’s game.

It is important to remember that for golf conditioning to be most useful, you should start the exercise routine a month or two before you plan to start your golf season. Many people find that they are stronger on one side of their body, and a bit weaker on the other. These imbalances can affect your game, but they also can be corrected with proper golf conditioning exercises. Stretches are also included to help improve your range of motion. Think about the contortions your body goes through when you reach all the way down to place a ball on a tee, or even more, when your perform a swing. A body that is not in good condition is more likely to sustain injury, which means that you will be on the sidelines resting rather than enjoying your sport, so a little pre-season conditioning is a great way to prevent that.
Golf can help improve your cardiovascular system if you walk between holes rather than take a golf cart. Even a fairly slow walk sustained for thirty minutes can burn approximately 130 calories, so even little bits of walking in between holes can really add up. Walking on a regular basis can help you lose a little weight or assist you in maintaining your current weight, it can strengthen your cardiovascular system when you walk at faster speeds, and walking can even help relieve the stresses that we carry with us throughout the day. Simply head out to your favorite golf courses and improve your health by playing golf today.

A Brief Introduction to the World of Golf

A Brief Introduction to the World of Golf

Golf is a grand old game, depending on how you look at it. There are those of course (no pun intended) who claim that “Golf is nothing more than a good walk spoiled” – pah! Heresy I say.

Remember when Golf was by and large understood to be a summer sport? Now those were the days. You used to get all excited come March / April time when the US Masters from Augusta was televised, then it was not long before the Open Championship from usually some wind swept piece of sand and gorse somewhere in Scotland. After that it was headlong into the US Open and the US PGA.

Before you knew it the season was over and you were busy packing your clubs away and counting the days until the next season started.

Not any longer however!

We now have this slightly strange situation whereby the PGA European Tour which stands for the Professional Golfers Association now has events in the far East and elsewhere worldwide so that golfing is now a fair weather sport just anywhere in the world (outside of the USA as far as the PGA European Tour are concerned) as long as the sun is shining and the weather is OK!

This latter fact is interesting in that it now a case of Golf being a truly worldwide and universal sport (wasn’t even Neil Armstrong famously filmed playing a form of golf on the moon?) that can be played by almost anyone.

There are golf courses in nearly every community in the United States and the world over. The majority all offer tee times that are available to pre book when you make reservations but by and large golf is a game that you must by and large plan ahead. Most things in golf are achievable but nearly all of them are achievable if you plan ahead well in time.

How golf got its start is a fascinating topic that all golfers want to know more about, and the game has a history rich in culture and lore.

Scotland has long been believed to be where golfing originated. Golf was played at what is now as the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews (R & A), and this led to a law being put in place by the then King, King James in 1457. The kings soldiers were spending too much time on the game and not enough time on archery practice and therefore made the game illegal. Early accounts of the game are also seen in depictions inside England’s Gloucester Cathedral dating back to 1340.

The word “golf” is based on the Dutch word “kolf,” which refers to a “bat, smash or fasten,” and hence may give credence to the idea that golf began in the Netherlands. Apparently there was a game where you place an ball in a hole in the ice, and this was called “ice kolf,” which might be seen as how the land-based form of the game developed i.e. less seasonal. More lately, a German scholar has found early depictions of the game of “Kolven,” which was a game about putting a ball into a hole, and this supposedly helps to set the sport’s origins in the Netherlands.

At the end of the day, none of this is important, what is important is the fact that more and more people are playing the game and that only has to be good for the sport.

Proper Golf Etiquette

Proper Golf Etiquette

Some golf etiquette is common sense, like don’t yell out profanities while someone in your foursome is hitting the ball. Other golf etiquette isn’t so obvious. I spent two years of playing golf before even knowing a few common golf courtesies, so take a look at these pointers to make sure you haven’t overlooked any yourself.

• Arrive early for your tee time. If you are late, that can mess up the golf courses entire schedule for the day.

• When teeing off, usually the person in your foursome with the lowest score on the previous hole tees off first.

• On fairways, and the rough, usually the person whose ball is farthest from the pin hits first.

• When around the putting green, again the person farthest from the pin goes first; but everyone will usually hit their ball onto the green before anyone starts putting.

• Again, once everyone is on the green, the person who is farthest from the hole putts first.

• It is considered rude to step on someone’s line (the line between their ball and the hole).

• If someone has a far putt, it is courteous to ask if they would like the flag tended or taken out.

• Remember if the ball goes in the hole when the flag is still in, technically the golfer technically incurs a two stroke penalty, so be sure to remove the flag before holing out.

• Remember to put the flag back in the hole sometimes. You don’t have to do it every time, but don’t always expect someone else to pick it up.

• Mark your ball on the putting green, especially if it’s in someone’s line to the pin. If you don’t have a marker, a coin will do just fine.

• Don’t forget to repair your ball marks and divots!

• If you are playing exceptionally slow, and there are groups waiting behind you, consider letting them play through. It would probably be best to pick up the pace, and start picking up your ball when you have an excessive number of strokes.

• Don’t talk when someone else is hitting. Try to stand behind others when they are teeing off. Also, if your shadow is in someone’s putting line, you should move; that can be distracting.

• Don’t hit until you are 100 percent sure the group in front of you is out of the way.

Keep in mind that a lot of these courtesies are how you want to golf when you are with someone you don’t know very well; just to be on the safe side. When you are out on the course with your friend’s, I’m sure they aren’t going to get too angry, if you go out of turn, or don’t mark your ball 100 percent of the time. Bottom line, just keep golf etiquette in mind, be courteous and considerate of other golfers, and you’ll be fine!

Golf Tips- 5 Basic Golf Swing Tips To Fine Tune Your Game!

Golf Tips- 5 Basic Golf Swing Tips To Fine Tune Your Game!

Basic golf swing tips may simply be all you that you require to keep you from striking those heavy shots, hooks, or slices. For instance, merely shifting the ball location may set right that thin shot, which you tend to hit off the tee. Rather than getting dejected and vowing never again to turn up at a golf course, contemplate on a couple of tips regarding golf swing and strive at perfecting your golf swing.

Now tips on golf swing can be collected from a number of sources. A fine place to begin is with recent golf books or golf magazines. Here it is possible for you to come across golf swing tips from experts or teachers and instructors of professional golfers. Orders for magazines and books containing tips on golf swing can be placed online.

In case you are extremely earnest regarding getting a few vital tips regarding golf swing, and you possess the necessary money and the time at your disposal, think about registering for a few golf lessons or joining a golf clinic where a professional gives you expert advice.

In order to put you on the track of learning the appropriate golf swing tips, the following are some golf swing tips, which deal with the fundamentals of a golf swing.

1. Amongst the most vital tips on golf swing is to maintain a square clubface. Hitting the golf ball by means of a square clubface ensures that the ball goes straight and a long way. In order to maintain the clubface square, you require to keep a steady golf swing plane. Practice bringing the golf club right back and subsequently follow through on the very same swing plane.

2. Next, timing is of the essence in the case of your golf swing. Now you may wish to possess a steady swing speed all through the whole swing. In fact it does not help out with your golf swing if you tend to bring the golf club right back slowly and then speed up right through your swing.

3. Then, golf fitness is an essential factor for developing your golf swing. Doing some easy golf exercises can vastly enhance litheness and power.

4. The kind of golf grip that you have is a further factor in honing your golf swing. Ensure that you do not have a very rigid golf grip, or else it will hamper your golf swing action. A fine way of determining whether your golf grip remains very tight is if your arms and hands become sore after you have finished playing a game of golf.

5. In fact, the best tip on golf swing may not exactly be to your liking but it is nothing but practice, and more practice, that will assist you with your golf swing the most. The greater the time devoted to practicing, or being out there on the practice green or driving range, the greater the development you will find not just in the golf swing, but also in your total performance as well as scoring.

Ways to Improve Golf Swing Technique

Ways to Improve Golf Swing Technique

There are many ways to improve golf swing accuracy and etiquette by practicing some simple drills. The best drill to practice to improve golf sing is to stroke the all, rather than hitting it. In other words, you should try to practice swinging towards the target, but letting the ball get in your way. There are many ways that a person can improve golf swing etiquette. All it takes is a little bit of practice.

If you think about hitting the ball too much, often times you will not follow through in the swing, stopping the club once it hits the ball. However, if you let the ball get hit because it was sitting there in the way of your swing, not because you were swinging at it, you are sure to not only improve golf swing accuracy, but you will also be able to improve your overall game.

This drill shows why many people have better practice swings than actual swings where a ball is involved. Without a ball it is easier to swing through, yet this is the very motion that is needed when perfecting your swing.

A key in helping to correct this tendency to stop your swing is to learn how to separate the optical eye from the ‘mind’s eye’. The optical eye sees where the ball is sitting, while the mind’s eye sees the ball sailing toward its target. Remember, the ball is not the target, so the key is to avoid being tricked by your optical eye. If you focus on the opposite, you will improve golf swing technique much quicker. That being said, let your mind’s eye swing to your target, which is the fairway or the green. This is not to say that you don’t look at the ball at all, but rather to stress that there is a great difference between looking at the ball and concentrating on it.

Smart Shopping for a Golf Community

Smart Shopping for a Golf Community

When looking at real estate in a golf community, it’s easy to get distracted by the stunning natural landscapes, the immaculate fairways, the luxury clubhouses, and the opulent lifestyle that can accompany golf course living. Wake up! This also represents a serious investment and possible lifestyle change, and you owe it to yourself to do your due diligence and not rush into an emotional buy.

Before you start touring those gorgeous model homes, sit down and go through this checklist to help determine exactly what you want from your new venture.

Where do you see yourself living? Are you enticed by oceanfront property, mountains which may double as a winter ski location, or maybe a dry desert climate? Wherever you choose, it should be someplace you sincerely want to be, not someplace that later, you wish you’d never chosen.

Is the timing right for your new golf course lifestyle? If you’re not at the stage of your life where you can appreciate all the amenities your new home has to offer, this may not be the right timing for such a move. If this is a vacation home ensure it offers what you want as well as a convenient location that you’ll use often.

The club may have plenty of great features, but what’s located outside your community? If you have to drive an hour to get to a grocery store, go to a movie, or visit your doctor, this may not be the best choice. Are there other activities or places that interest you close by? If you like to golf, and are an avid fisherman, you might want to find a place with a lake nearby. It’s all about choices – that golf course may start to feel restricting if that is all you have.

Is it an easy location to access? If your dream community is located on an island where access is by boat or plane, you need to consider whether you are ready to deal with the inconvenience. Mind you, some may feel the remote location is just what they’re looking for.

Research the developer and inspect their track record. Are they famous for delayed, over budget projects, or do they deliver what they promise and on time? Are they easy to contact, or do you find yourself forever leaving messages or dealing with a full voice mail box? Talk to other residents and some of the staff to get a feel for the quality of management at the community.

What is the property going to be like 10 years from now? If the neighborhood appeals to you because it’s fairly private and moderately populated, find out how many future builds they are approved for. You may be investing in Phase 1 with 10 more phases to go. That scenic view of the lake may turn into someone’s backyard wading pool in a few years.

Understand the club membership plan. What may seem like a great deal today may simply be an introductory special. What is included with the fees and how much can you expect it to increase each year? Consider the members as well. If this is largely a senior occupied community and you have young children, is there enough available to interest them. Some facilities have generational memberships that include all the immediate family members. If you’re wife and kids plan on using the facilities, this makes sense.

Test out the golf course. If the course looks pretty on the outside, but you get bored after playing it for a month, you’ve got a problem. It should be well kept, well run, and provide enough of a challenge to keep you coming back. After all, you’re in this for the long haul.

Purepoint Golf Instruction – Short Game – Chipping Golf Instruction

Purepoint Golf Instruction – Short Game – Chipping Golf Instruction

I believe that the setup is the key to hitting a great chip shot. Of course, you need the backswing and the downswing, but if you’re not standing to it properly, hitting the golf ball with the correct impact is going to be a very difficult thing to do.

I’m going to give you some chipping golf instruction. The next time you’re out playing, check your ball position. Critical, the very first thing, make sure that the golf ball is in the middle of your stance, not off your left foot, not off your front foot, and not off your back foot, but in the middle.

The next part of the chipping golf instruction is to make sure you put your weight on your left leg, not in the middle, not on your right leg, but on your left leg. And when you do that, take the butt end of the club, and push it over to your belt buckle.

So, you see the angle you have? This enables the golf club to swing up and down so you’ll make solid contact with the golf ball.

And then, this will enable the golf club to go up so it comes back down and makes solid contact with the golf ball.

Try that the next time you go to the golf course.
