Correcting Golf Swing Problems - A Few Basic Tips

Correcting Golf Swing Problems - A Few Basic Tips

You’ve been playing golf forever and you still stink when you’re out on the green. You’ve got all the necessary gear, all the training stuff, and you’ve watched videos and tutorials online. So, what’s the problem?

Even if you play golf as a hobby, you’ll always need to be concerned with correcting golf swing problems. There’s nothing more rewarding than noticing that you’re scores are getting lower. You’ll gain more confidence and feel better about your game.

Here are some simple tips for correcting golf swing problems.

Keep Your Eyes Open

When you go golfing with friends, watch them. During the first few holes, check out everybody and see who’s the best player. Don’t worry about all your own slices and mistakes; find out who’s the best in the group and study their moves.

You’d be surprised what you can learn just by watching others play. If you don’t get out to play as much as you’d like to, watch pro golf on TV. Instead of thinking about how impossibly good the players are, watch what the do and pay attention to their technique.

Practice Practice Practice

I can’t write tips for improving your game without mentioning practice. Practice a lot. Okay, I mentioned it, so let’s move on!

Watch Yourself

When you’re doing all this practicing I mentioned above, videotape yourself and watch your swing. This can really help you notice things you wouldn’t have noticed before. When you are practicing, you’re so busy DOING it, that you might not notice a mistake you’re making.

Watching the video back, you might notice that your posture is a little awkward, or your address a little off. You can watch different shots and see how consistent your set-up is. You can see the angles from the outside, and you can even compare your swings with those of your favorite golfers.

Just remember to erase them when you’re done. There’s no reason to keep an archive, and let’s face it, it’s a little weird to have a hundred videos of yourself practicing golf!

If you’re not into the audio-visual side of things, practice in front of a mirror. This will help too, and you can practice your “Nice shot!” face.

No More Slicing

The most common problem with most golfers’ swings is the dreaded slice. The slice is basically when the ball goes veering off to the right of where you meant to put it (of the left, in the case of lefties).

If you slice a lot, you are probably swinging in too much of a downward motion. In other words, your swing plan is too steep.

Try flattening it out. If you flatten it out too much, the ball will start veering to the left (or the right, in the case of lefties). Try to find the right balance between too-steep and too-flat, so that the ball goes just where you want to put it.

Sometimes slicing is caused by improper grip or stance. Make sure you have the proper address before you take your golf swing, and you’ll eliminate this problem. For more info see http://www.getgoodatgolf.com on golf course.

There’s a lot that goes into making a perfect golf swing, and all of us can stand a little correcting once in a while. Always correcting golf swing problems will help improve your game and get you over the slump to the next level.

How to Improve your Golf Swing - Get a Pro Golfer to Help You

How to Improve your Golf Swing - Get a Pro Golfer to Help You

One of the best ways to get better at your golfing skills, is to hire the training of a pro-golf trainer. If you’re anything like me, you’re a “do it on my own” king of person. But this is in many cases the wrong approach. A pro golfer can give you specific instruction and exercises that will help you improve a lot faster that you will on your own. It will also be a lot less painful.

So getting a golf pro to rain and instruct you on your golf swing is a great idea. Now, how do you go about finding just the right golf instructor?

There are a number of ways to do that. You can go to golf shops and look at ads or ask the shop keeper and other people who come to the shop. Another way is to go the country club or golf course and ask around. Don’t just go for the first instructor you meet, but examine a few of them. Try to watch them as they give lessons to other students, and than ask yourself - is this an instructor I would like to work with?

When hiring a golf instructor, it’s important you take a few lessons with them and ask yourself - do I have good communication with this gold pro? If you feel there remains a communication gap between two of you, there is no harm in parting ways and looking for a new gold instructor. Even your current pro may be able to make a recommendation if you just explain to him/her your difficulties in a polite and respectful manner.

When you do find a good instructor you want to work with, don’t make the mistake of thinking that you can have the perfect swing in just a few sessions. It takes a lot more than that to improve your game significantly. Every student has his/her own pace, and golf techniques take time to learn, and even more time to perfect. Always listen to your gold trainer, and don’t waste your and his time by neglecting to implement his instructions. Your instructor will also recommend additional practice time, and you will be wise to listed to this advice and take advantage of this.

If your gold pro does a good job, there is no harm in giving them a nice tip or bonus. It’s worthwhile to keep in mind that golf pro’s take much pride in their work and profession. They also have a lot of passion to the game and if you show similar passion and respect their skill, you will get a lot in return.

Golf Ideas for your Trip

Golf Ideas for your Trip

South Carolina is a beautiful place to perfect your golfing skills and have a great time away from home. Prior to taking a golf vacation, it is a good idea to practice your golf game in order to make sure that you play the best game of golf you can and have a wonderful time golfing in SC.

Additionally, golfing at Myrtle Beach is one of the most wonderful ways to get out of your head, home and business. If you just want to escape for a few days and enjoy the ocean and the sport of golf itself, it is a great idea to go to Myrtle Beach to improve your golf skills. It is a good idea to do some research before you go if you are a just learning the sport, so as not to stress.

You should know that the first thing that you will come into contact with is your golf club. Therefore, it seems only logical that you learn how to grip your club. Though it just might seem like a rudimentary step at first, it is vital in creating a backboard to how the remainder of your game is played. Establishing a good grip is the first step to becoming a wonderful golfer. The grip sets the tone for all else to come.

Additionally, you will want to find a grip pressure that allows you to deliver enough force without the club twisting at impact. However, you do not want your hands and forearms to be too tight and stiff. A good way to think of grip pressure is to think of it as though you are holding a bird in your hands and you want to hold tight enough that the bird cannot fly away yet not so tight as to hurt the bird.

Keep in mind that this creates a gentle enough grip so as not to result in stiffness, but it allows for a sense of control at the same time. It is also good to know that if you use your thumb and forefinger, the golf ball will point just to the right of your chin. With this grip, someone standing directly across from you would see only the first two knuckles of your left hand. If your forefinger and little finger meet underneath the club grip, you can choose to overlap these to fingers or you can interlock them if you want.

You should just do whichever grip is more comfortable and gives you the most confidence. As you begin to learn about address and set up, you can spend time just swinging the club back and forth and get used to how the club and the grip feel.

You should also remember to hold the club more toward your fingers than back in the palm of the hand.

Drawing or fading the golf ball begins with your grip. Although drawing or fading your golf shot goes beyond the scope of this article, I want to touch on this as it relates to our discussion on the grip. If you want to grip to draw the ball you will rotate your hands and your grip clockwise. This will produce a three knuckle grip. One of the ways to best improve your game is to perfect your game.

You should know that without an authoritative swing, things will go wrong and you will end up with a shot skulled over the green or one that skips along the grass searching for a hazard.

Purepoint Golf Instruction – Proper Golf Followthrough – Golf Swing Tempo

Purepoint Golf Instruction – Proper Golf Followthrough – Golf Swing Tempo

How many times have you stood in the middle of the fifth fairway at your local golf course and you always hit 9 iron from that little bush?

Or you always hit 7 wood from that little tiny tree on the side of the fairway, but today there’s just a little breeze in your face, or maybe the pin is in the back of the green? And you really don’t want to hit 8 iron and you really don’t want to hit 5 wood, but you’d like to hit the club you’re trying to hit a little bit further?

I want to give you a little tip, or a little pearl on how to hit it further by increasing your golf swing tempo, but I don’t want you to get hung up on the fact that it’s just for the driver. This can be for any club.

The next time you’re out, try this. Take a couple of practice swings. Warm up before you hit the ball, and then raise the club up in the air like you would a baseball bat.

If you can swing it in the air and increase your golf swing tempo, that’s 20% harder than I usually swing a golf club. Then put it down on the ground and do the same thing twice. Step up to the ball and give it a whack.

Now, if the truth were known and we went out and measured that 9 iron, I guarantee you that 9 iron went 10% further than my average 9 iron.

So, here it is. Make sure that just before you get ready to hit that you raise it in the air and increase your golf swing tempo a little bit faster than you normally would. Then put it on the ground and give it some swish. And then put it up to the ball and give it a whack.

Don’t forget, the further you hit it the more offline you might be.

So, if you’re looking to hit it a little bit further, try that practice session.

Thanks, and have a great day.

What Is The Lure Of The Game Of Golf?

What Is The Lure Of The Game Of Golf?

Have you ever stopped to think what it is about golf that you like so much?

Some people would say that it allows them to enjoy a form of exercise that is not quite so strenuous as running or jogging on the treadmill or pedaling on the exercise bike. Others would say that they like the challenge that the sport presents. A few more might admit that it is an activity that allows for their social skills to emerge. If enough people are queried the answers could very well be numerous.

As for me, it is “the guys.” You might wonder why an answer like that would roll out of my mind. But for me, it’s true … “The guys.”

The game itself is wonderful. The challenges that it presents are endless. The demands of a long straight drive are ever-present. In golfing terms that could be construed as another tee shot hit in the short grass. The approach shot finding its mark on the green … or as golfers put it, another green in regulation. The putting stroke, the chip shot, the bunker shot, the pitch-and-run are all shots that require a great deal of practice and skill in their own way.

The decisions of the game and how it plays with the golfers’ mind are also a big part of the game. When a player has to shape a shot the decisions that come along with that are numerous. Does the shot call for moving the ball with a slight fade or a power draw? Should the ball get up in a hurry to clear a cluster of trees or should the shot be played low to stay under the limbs? Should the player go around a hazard or take a greater chance by trying to carry the ball over the danger? If the wind is blowing into the golfers face should the player swing an extra club or two or play the shot lower so that the ball cuts through the breeze?

The strategies are endless. The skill levels are numerous. The challenges are mind-boggling and unique. The vacation destinations are abundant. The various events are well-documented. Even the body types and gender specifications are varied.

So what makes the game so popular? To reiterate … it’s “the guys.”

To me there is nothing like having the regular group of guys on a Saturday or Sunday morning or for that matter a Wednesday afternoon or a Friday lunch. I’ve been lucky enough to have grown up in a golfing environment. Hanging around the pro shop is unique in its own way. Grabbing a bite to eat in the snack bar is significant in its own manner. Both are equally as important as jumping into a cart with a playing partner. Those places are where the stories are told, the jokes are thrown around, and the business deals are made.

From those experiences the games begin. The opportunity to bet and be paired with players of varying skill levels is fun! The challenge of the course is one thing, but saving the tail of a playing partner is what it’s all about. Seeing a partner drain a thirty-footer when the chips are on the line or a competitor missing a three-foot putt in a similar situation are what make the game what it is. To be able to share the camaraderie on the course and take it to dinner afterwards or on vacation in the off-season or to a sponsored event away from the home venue is what the game of golf is all about. The friendships that are established and taken to other life experiences to me is what makes the game of golf so special.

You can have the beauty of the various golf courses. You can have the challenge of the different shots. You can have the action of the different bets. But if you don’t have “the guys” to share all of that with then the glass is half-empty.

Murcia the Golfing Region

Murcia the Golfing Region

Murcia region has its own particular charm, it is still a place where the coastline has to a great extent, remained untouched by tourism and even now the main cities as well as small interior villages have kept their distinctive Spanish flavor. It is true that the atmosphere is changing with some big developers, who are beginning to create multi-billion dollar complexes here, which also include very luxurious golf resorts.

When in Murcia, you can see some of the outstanding golf and tourism facilities at many of the exclusive Clubs, alongside the Mar Menor. And with a number of world-class18-hole courses still on the way, the area will soon become the golfing Mecca of Europe.

Golf Resorts are becoming very popular here but Murcia region has some breathtaking tourist attractions also.

Caravaca de la Cruz is very beautiful town which is located about an hour and a half from the Mar Menor. The town impresses you with its awesome architectural inheritance. The main attraction of this place is the castle, with its walls and turrets, which stand over the dwelling of Caravaca. It is a very old monument and dates way back to the 13th century.

This place holds a lot of significance in the Christian world as Caravaca de la Cruz gets its name from a wooden piece, which was shaped like a cross with twin arms. It is supposed to be the part of the same cross on which Jesus Christ was crucified. The Cruz de Caravaca is the symbol of the town and it is kept in the church sanctuary.

There are five holy towns in the Christian world and Caravaca de la Cruz is one of them. There is the Annus Sanctus celebration which takes place every seven years, and a lot of people come for pilgrimage here. Cross of Caravaca is said to have appeared here from nowhere and is a symbol of religious devotion.

Caravaca de la Cruz is an imposing and fascinating town which is bordered by 14 defensive towers and fortified by encircling castle walls. Every year the first five days of May, are marked with extravagant celebrations in honor of the cross. There are a number of events which take place during this time. There is no doubt that the main theme of all the celebrations is the respected cross and the historic struggle involving the Christians and Moors.

The town of Jumilla is like a rural paradise and is about 2 miles from the new Santa Ana Golf development. This place basically stretches around the foot of the castle which dates back from the time of Arab control.

Jumilla is one of the major wine making regions in the south of Spain. It is located in the province of Murcia. A lot of changes are coming over Jumilla as much construction and growth is happening here. There are many large developments here which also include two golf courses. With this new development many more people are expected to come here.

There is no doubt that you can enjoy a great game of golf on your golfing holiday in Murcia, Spain but it also offers you much more.

Golf Balls: What Type Should You Buy?

Golf Balls: What Type Should You Buy?

Have you ever walked into your local golf store or a nearby Dick’s Sporting Goods store to get some golf balls? It may seem like the easiest task at hand as you walk from your car, through the parking lot, and into the store. You’re just there to pick up some good old golf balls for your game later that evening. You pass a nice looking golf shirt, some golf shoes, and then you see them. You stop dead in your tracks.

The shelves… upon shelves… upon shelves of golf balls seem to stare blankly at you. And they all seem to be screaming at the same time: Long distance, More spin, More control, Hi-spin, Raw distance fusion. Raw distance fusion? you ask yourself.

Ok, time out! It’s time to take a deep breath and relax. No, the golf ball world does not want to make you have a panic attack before you even get out on the green! But, it is no question that buying golf balls, even for some experienced golfers, can be a tad bit confusing. Let’s take a closer look at the basic types of golf balls on the market today and perhaps this will help you in your next endeavor into the store!

Basic facts about golf balls:
To begin, there are some specifications that all golf balls must meet in order to be sold for golfers. First, all regulated golf balls have a size limit. This limit is 1.68 inches in diameter. And, a golf ball cannot be any heavier than 1.62 ounces. The only other specification that must be met on a golf ball is it’s shape – yes, it must be round! No square, rectangle, or triangle balls allowed.

The importance of compression:
Quite simply put, the compression of a golf ball will give you a certain feeling from having hit the ball – it will either feel solid or not solid enough. The higher the compression of a golf ball, the more solid it will feel to you. Typically, golf ball compressions are rated between 80 and 100 – 90 being the most common. What type of golf ball compression you favor is completely up to you. In the game of golf, no two players are the same.

Ball coverings:
Golf ball coverings come in two main types of materials: Surlyn and Balata. First, a golf ball covered with the material Surlyn cannot be scuffed or broken. This is because Surlyn is a manmade substance that withstands a great amount of pressure and outside damage. A golf ball made of Surlyn also has a solid core on the inside The positive aspects of getting golf balls covered with Surlyn are that they are fairly inexpensive, have a long life, and can travel far distances. On the other hand, these balls get less spin than others.

The other type of golf ball to look at is one that is made with Balata. Balata balls have liquid-filled cores. These cores are then bound together with rubber and covered with Balata – which is a fairly soft covering. Although a Balata covering can be nicked and cut up, it allows the ball to have more spin and backspin than otherwise usual. For you, this means more control over your golf ball. Despite its higher cost and shorter life on the golf course, it is a good choice of balls for experienced players.

Once you find the golf ball that is right for you, the only thing you will have to get nervous about is whether or not you should buy one case or two of them!

Golf Ground Conditions

Golf Ground Conditions

There are many factors that go into your ability to play a good round of golf. Weather, the condition of the course, your mental and physical state, and how other people in your group are doing to greatly affect the outcome of your game. Learning how to play in different weather conditions is important especially if you plan on traveling to different courses during the year. Courses that are overly dry or wet will cause you to adapt to these conditions in order to ensure the ball goes where you want it to go. And even after you have played in similar conditions you cannot always keep the terrain from affecting your game.

Another issue concerning weather is the temperature. On hot days, you golf ball will travel farther than on cold days. By learning how to gauge weather changes during your game, you will be able to compensate for different types of weather. If it rains right before your round, you may need to wait until the ground dries or learn how to control the ball on a wet surface. Since some golf courses water the green on a daily basis, the time you play will also affect your game.

Your mental and physical state before a golf game is another factor you need to consider. The day before a game or the morning of your game, you should try to relax and get enough rest so you can play a good round. If you have leg, knee, shoulder, or neck injuries, your game may suffer if you have to compensate by shifting your body in different ways from what you are used to. If you cannot stop thinking about work, family issues, or other important issues during the game, you may not play as well either. Making sure you are in good health is important before hitting the green.

If you have been playing golf with the same group of people for a period of time, you may have noticed that your performance is sometimes altered depending on the mood of the group of their performance. Negative feelings and energy can be absorbed by other players, especially in a game like this one when mental stability is almost as important as the conditions of the green. Make sure that everyone is up to playing a round before you begin. This way, everyone will have a good time.

The Phenomenon Of Golf Grows

The Phenomenon Of Golf Grows

The popularity of the game of golf has skyrocketed since the early nineteen nineties in the United States. There are a multitude of reasons for this phenomenon. Perhaps the main reason may be the aging of the baby boomers. However, another factor to not overlook is the social benefit that the sport offers.

The physical fitness craze took over the country in the last several decades. All of the health conscious athletes looked for different ways to hang on to their competitive nature. Some migrated to jogging; others went after bicycling; still others found the answer in a different physical activity.

But the masses migrated to golf. It is a sport that has held up over the test of time. As the body grows older limitations on what it can do are placed upon it. One of the activities that the body is still allowed to do as it grows older is swing a golf club. All shapes and sizes as well as genders and races can enjoy the competitiveness of the game well into old age. That is due in part to the gentle demands that are put on the body as the sport is played.

It seems that only a very few can continue playing touch or tackle football into their twenties and thirties. The same can be said about baseball, softball, and basketball. Even runners tend to go by the wayside because of the demands that are placed on their knees, joints, hip and back. But the game of golf tends to attract anyone that enjoys competing and enjoying nature at its finest.

Not to be ignored in this attraction to golf are the social advantages. How many times have you heard about business deals being made on the golf course? The contacts that can be made during a friendly round of golf are limitless. That’s not to mention the wagering between friends and the camaraderie created between competitors.

Many of my adult friendships have been initiated and then established on the golf course. Not only does that include business contacts, but it takes into account golf buddies that enjoy taking trips around the country to the various golf resorts. The bond that is created encompasses trust, loyalty, laughter, and integrity. Those are some of the basic qualities of life that are memorable, worthwhile, and everlasting.

So, to deny the game of golf its true place in American society would almost be sacrilegious. It is one of the last pure professional sports that is left. There are no steroids. There are no referees. The game is mainly policed by each golfer. A player tees it up and lets his or her ability speak for itself on any given day. There are no guarantees. There is no secret to getting the ball in the hole.

The only thing that is assured is that it is called the “gentleman’s game” for a reason. That is because it is to be played with manners, etiquette, and respect for your playing partner. Is there any wonder why it has grown in popularity?
